Change is hard. Change is risky. Change is good.

Change is hard.

Change is risky.

It might cost you something. It might not work out like you want. You might “fail.”

And that’s where fear comes in. We all like safety. Being safe. Safe places.

Don’t rock the boat. Go with the flow.

So you just settle. You settle for the same old same old. Your mantra is, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

But I take it you don’t use a flip phone. You know, that one that wasn’t broken.

We change our phones, buy new cars, upgrade our laptops, revolutionize the way we make coffee … and yet.

How are you doing things differently in the way you write? The way you work? Your products?

What’s your level of professional innovation? Of professional change?

If you’re squirming in your seat, it’s time to rethink things. Take a self-awareness test.

Ask yourself what in your professional life has improved in the past year. The past couple of years. The past five years.

Have you learned new things? Or are you bingeing on shows every night?

How have you challenged yourself? Have you recognized something you’re doing at work isn’t necessarily wrong, but lacks quality? It could be better? Why isn’t it better?

Ask questions about your work of someone with more experience than you. Seek a mentor.

Don’t ever settle.

Change is hard.

Change is risky.

Change is good.
